JOIN-TRANS 2026: 8th European Conference "Joining and Construction of Railway Vehicles"
May 7–8, 2026
Note on the hybrid event: You can participate in this event on site or via our livestream.

Welding quality in rail transport concerns all of Europe
Safe rail transport is in the public interest throughout Europe - and welding plays an active role within. Therefore, the harmonization of welding for railway vehicles according to EN 15085 is proceeding. However, a clearly defined standard alone does not sufficiently influence the quality of welding on railway vehicles but a standardized European system of quality assurance does. The latter is a key task for the European Committee for Welding on Railway Vehicles (ECWRV). Manufacturers, operators, national safety authorities as well as manufacturer certification bodies from more than 20 countries are all currently members of the ECWRV. They all discuss the matter.
EN 15085 online database supports transparency and harmonization
In this context, the online database EN 15085 is crucial as it provides transparency regarding the validity of certificates as well as technical information. Every participant of the project needs to be up-to-date with the topic. This can be achieved by their exchange of experience such as in technical conferences about the latest developments in welding technology, the welded constructions, and standards for railway vehicles.
