As in any other technical field, welded joints also have a limited lifespan. Even then, not every weld lasts as long as specification. There are various reasons for this, some highly complex. Major causes of premature failure in welded joints include technological and metallurgical damage directly related to thermal production process – that is, welding.
A wide variety of potential internal and external factors can play a role in mechanical failures. Often, only a faction of them are still directly detectable after the damage has arisen, so we apply a methodical and planned approach in evaluating mechanical failures. The studies begin as required on the damage site, and will take material engineering, welding metallurgy and technological aspects into account as necessary.
The range of services at SLV Halle GmbH also includes integration of welding experiments as a basis for new and safer welding technologies aimed at preventing future prevention of mechanical failure.
